There is nothing better than to make homemade Italian tomato sauce over freshly made pasta. You can make this tomato sauce in under 30 minutes and has a couple secret ingredients 🤫. Serves 4-6
Ingredients:
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 cup diced yellow onion
2 garlic cloves, smashed
1/2 cup red wine
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes, crushed
1 28oz can San Marzano whole peeled tomatoes
1/2 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
Sea salt and pepper, to taste
10 fresh basil leaves, cut into ribbons
Directions:
In a Dutch Oven heat oil over med/high heat. Add onions and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add wine and simmer until evaporated then add the red pepper flakes and tomatoes. Stir and try to cut tomatoes apart using a wooden spoon. Add in the honey, balsamic vinegar, sea salt and pepper (to taste) and stir to combine. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside until ready to use or refrigerate in a air tight container (after it has cooled down).
